Crystal Harris Kicks Hef While He’s Down

27 07 2011

Playboy’s Runaway bride herself Crystal Harris chose to further disrespect the man that made her famous today, by chatting with Sirius XM’s star Howard Stern.

Laughing, sometimes nervously, while being grilled by Stern and Co., Harris revealed little about her feelings leading to the abrupt breakup.

People magazine quoted Harris as saying her intimate life with Hefner was a sham, “I’m not turned on by Hef, sorry.”
Harris alleges that sex with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner lasted “like two seconds. Then I was just over it,” she says. ” I was over it. I just like, walked away.”
Harris claimed the pair, who were together for about 18 months, had sex just once.

Last month, just five days before the wedding, Harris slipped out of the (in)famous Playboy Mansion — casually telling guests and property staff that she was going to Walgreens (E! News coverage).

Harris’ claims that  “I love Hef. I cared about Hef. I always will. We had a good time together,” do little to excuse the interview with Stern.

Following their split, Hefner seemed to be looking on the bright side when he tweeted, “I think I just missed a bullet.”

_____________________________________________________________________________________

I was never a big fan of THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR, but particularly paid no attention to the series following the exit of endearing threesome of Holly, Bridget and Kendra. Those twins [Kristina and Karissa Shannon] were troublesome trash from the start, and it turns out so was Crystal!

Harris’ behavior as a whole was without thoughtful planning or consideration for anyone but herself. But it must be noted that her second mistake in the runaway bride situation was running off to Las Vegas — aka  Holly Madison town.
Hefner’s most famous ex was adamant about her concerns when news of the engagement broke last Christmas, and I’d imagine there was a fleeting moment of “I knew it!” vindication when this came to light. And I’m just sayin’, but “Holly’s World” could have had a serious ratings boost had the two run into eachother that fateful Saturday.

Another error in judgement was spending what was to be her wedding day with none other than the reality trainwreck herself, Heidi Montag… but I’ll let that one go.

This woman somehow thinks this publicity is going to parlay into a singing and serious modelling career…  I think she has about five more minutes of left over fame until everyone turns the cameras off.
There are more relevant centerfolds for paparazzi to tail and there will certainly be other girls benefitting from Hef’s social power.

My final thought:   Kendra Wilkinson should kick your ass, you ungrateful famewhore.

Leave Britney Kevin Federline Alone!

Federline, 33, with Prince, 28 (Photo credit: Seth Browarnik/Startraks)

Word has it that Kevin Federline, aka K-Fed, aka Fed-Ex, is expecting his fifth child.

Federline has a daughter and son (born in 2002 and 2004) with former longtime girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson; and two sons (born 2005 and 2006) with pop singer Britney Spears.

Current girlfriend Victoria Prince, a former pro Volleyball player, has been dating Federline for about two years.  The baby is said to be due this summer.

As soon as this little tidbit leaked, the bloggers went berzerk.  Yet another woman let this sloppy bastard… well, I’ll let you fill in the end of that thought.

Kidding aside, I think that this man has really made the best of what life has handed him and dealt with the reprocussions of his choices admirably.  If you’ll recall, following ex-wife Spears’ very public freak out and subsequent conservatorship in ’07, Federline was awarded custody of their two young children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.  So a judge was sure enough that these kids were in good hands, we should give the guy some credit!

———————————————————
HERE ARE FOUR PEOPLE WHO ARE DEFINITELY WORSE PARENTS THAN K~FED!
The stork must have been higher than Snoop Dogg to deliver bouncing bundles to these people…

1. Charlie Sheen
The personal life of the highest paid man in television has begun to eclipse his resume spanning two decades.  The fact that three women have married him, knowing full well of his drug and prostitute-filled tendencies, blows my mind

The father of five — High school love Paula Profit gave birth to a daughter, Cassandra, now 26; ex-wife Denise Richards had two girls, Sam and Lola, in 2004 and 2005; and estranged wife Brooke Mueller has twin boys Max and Bob, born in 2008 — has been arrested half a dozen times.

He can barely take care of himself, with or without the help of his ‘goddesses.’
I wouldn’t let this man watch a pet, nevermind a human child! Which coincidentally is something he and ex-wife Richards are currently fighting over.

2. Michael Lohan
Well, just look at his trainwreck of a daughter, former actress Lindsay Lohan, and see how put together this man is!

His many life accomplishments include an arrest and 3-year prison stint for insider trading,  an illegitimate child concieved while estranged from wife Dina in the mid-90s, another year   served for probation violation, followed by two and a half years in a correctional facility   following his assault on brother-in-law Matt Sullivan and conviction for DUI.

Lohan’s divorce from wife Dina was finalized in 2007– which is about the time that his oldest   daughter, Lindsay, began her inelegant descent from up-and-coming Disney darling to a   tabloid-fixture and drug-addict who hasn’t participated in a respectable film since 2005’s   “Herbie Fully Loaded.”

Mr. Lohan is set to appear on Dr. Drew Pinsky’s Celebrity Rehab, in it’s fifth season, to resolve  anger issues and an extended dependency on alcohol.   Just days after he finished therapy at  the Pasadena Recovery Center, Lohan was accused of battering ex-fiance and disgraced journalist Kate Major.

3. Courtney Love

She may or may not have killed her husband Kurt Cobain in the early 90s, but her drug use and deviancy document back to her teens.

The Hole front-woman has had many social ups and downs — between fights with her bandmates, a myriad of lawsuits, confangled rants on her blog and Twitter, and attempt at acting — but the general perception of her is that she is a sloppy mess. You wouldn’t want her for a friend, but you definitely don’t want her for an enemy.

Child services have been a fixture in their lives since daughter Frances Bean, born to in 1992, was only weeks old. It is alleged that Courtney Love used heroin during the pregnancy, a suspicion only reinforced by statements Love herself made to Vanity Fair magazine.  Family members on both sides made efforts to secure guardianship of the minor, but not until 2009 did a permanent arrangement come to fruition.  A no-contact/restraining order was grated to Frances against her mother in December 2009, at which time Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, was appointed her temporary guardian by a Los Angeles County judge.

4. Alec Baldwin
He’s an award-winning actor, but I just don’t get it.  Sometimes Baldwin, just one of the four famous brothers, gives a likeable, nice-guy performance, but he plays a jackass way better! (Because, let’s just assume, he is one!)

No matter how many good things the cast of 30 Rock has to say about the funny-man, his 2008 voicemail rant against his 11-year-old daughter Ireland was no laughing matter.  That situation, in which he called the girl a “rude, thoughtless little pig,” had all the makings of a Lohan-level family disaster.

Baldwin has apologized and offered a bunch of explanations, but the bottom line is he lashed out at his child because of his paranoia and dissatisfaction with how his divorce from Kim Basinger played out.
Honestly, he should me more than happy to jump through the so-called hoops he talks about in order to maintain a relationship with Ireland. How dare any adult man complain about having to travel and spend a little money in order to see his kid?
What’s more, we very quickly forgave and forgot about this incident,  but I doubt Ireland has or will.

5. Joe Jackson

The original stage-father has been called the ultimate disciplinarian, a real bastard. Blinded by fame and sick with the power that came with managing The Jackson 5, he seems to have lost touch with his humble roots in Arkansas, personal failure as a boxer and blue-collar career in the steel insustry.

The most famous of his musical offspring, Michael, spoke candidly of his tumultuous childhood in the early 90s– telling Oprah Winfrey that Joe would overwork and beat the kids, to the point where little Michael would vomit in fear at the sight of him father.

All nine of the Jackson children have had their share of highly publicized personal issues— with the law, with romantic partners, and with their father.  Matriarch Katherine (Scruse) Jackson had the opportunity to save herself and her children from the manipulative would-be entrepreneur, but she declined to pursue a divorce despite Joe’s infidelity (that resulted in his eleventh child, Joh’Vonnie Jackson) in the early 70s.

New Year, reNewed Focus

23 01 2011

Hey ya’ll, Been away a while!
Took about 8 weeks off from blogging while I was on vacation from UAlbany, but just because I wasn’t posting every week doesn’t mean I wasn’t absorbing all things media and pop culture!

Here are my thoughts on a few items that developed during my sabatical…

The Cast of JERSEY SHORE: Reality stars, Enemies of Italy, and… Authors?

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino released his self-help gem “Here’s the Situation,” a veritable GTL How To, back in November; Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi graced the literary world with her novel “A Shore Thing” earlier this month; and now, Jennifer “JWoww” Farley will take a shot at the Best Seller list with a compilation of her insights to the contemporary dating game with “The Rules According to JWoww,” due out February 8.

Currently, Sorrentino sits at #4005 on the Amazon sales chart- far and away from Polizzi who is #606.

Honestly the only one of these 3 titles I am tempted to thumb through during my next visit to Barnes & Noble is JWoww’s. I’m pretty sure she and castmate Vinny Guadagnino are the only ones that can read, but he’s opted not to cash in on the image.  I admire her tenacity, she is one of the only characters from ‘Jersey Shore’ who has been unchanged each season.

As I understand it Farley has two degrees in business- so I expect this to be just the latest in several strategic ventures she persues while ‘Jersey Shore’ is still wowwing.

Canadian singer Lavigne, 24

CONGRATULATIONS TO AVRIL LAVIGNE
Nobody has liked your music in a decade, but you’re still relevant enough to have been the first online celebrity death hoax of 2011!

The internet has done great things for ease of access to information, but it has also contributed to the rapid spread of misinformation, hate, and rumors.

Late 2010 Twitter “casualties” were Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson, and Charlie Sheen.  Sandler and Wilson are alive, well, and working. Sheen is alive.   All four death “announcements” over the holiday season had the stars meeting their demise on the slopes. To quote Youtube icon Michael Buckley:  “Somebody really hates snowboarding!”

NPR sets the bar for journalists…  and apparently that bar is not up very high.
NPR seriously fucked up their coverage of the Gabrielle Giffords’ shooting in Arizona by announcing the congresswoman dead- when she in fact lived and is recovering.

“Weekend Edition” host Scott Simon said on Wednesday the organization’s mistake is “reprehensible.”  He went on, “There should be no room for doubt when a news organization declares someone dead. They should wait until the medical authorities directly involved declare death, or close family members announce it.”

I can only agree with Scott Simon, as reports surfaced that Gifford’s own husband, Mark Kelly, believed her dead before speaking with his mother-in-law who was at the hospital with Giffords.  To send this poor man into the early stages of grief is unforgivable- on the part of NPR and every other media outlet who inaccurately reported on the Tuscon shooting.

FOUNDER OF DEADSPIN HAS (PROFESSIONAL) FALLING OUT WITH CURRENT CHIEF
2010 was the year people really learned the name AJ Daulerio.

His involvement in breaking the Bret Favre cellphone photo scandal has solidified his place in history alongside Woodward/Bernstein (who broke the Watergate scandal), Monday Night Football (whose anchors first reported the death of John Lennon), and the National Inquirer (who knew Tiger Woods was a cheater days before his wife!).

AJ Daulerio has surpassed the expectations of one-time mentor Will Leitch, who founded the “Deadspin” sports site, and not by any means Leitch is proud of.

Daulerio has upped readership three-fold, but he has veered the website from its beginnings as platform for commentary, to a raunchy gossip page with tidbits of athletic coverage.

Leitch told GQ that “I never wanted people to feel like they needed to take a shower.”   And now Deadspin is home to the “Worldwide Leader in Dong Shots.”

NETFLIX THANKS THEIR CUSTOMERS… BY CHANGING THEIR ENTIRE M.O.

“Add to DVD Queue” no longer an option on the hugely popular movie rental service.  Within the next 12-18 months those flimsy red envelopes that contributed to the demise of your neighborhood rental shop and perpetuated the laziness of American consumerism will be no more- as Netfilx has announced they anticipate a complete shift over to digital streaming in 2012.

I am on the fence about this. On the one hand, it is smart for Netflix, as they will no longer have to purchase and process physical DVD discs. On the other hand, what a way to slap your older customers in the face. Perhaps the over 50 crowd doesn’t have the desire to subscribe to and learn “OnDemand”-style viewing.

Also, it is unclear whether the same variety of films and TV series will be available through this digital ordering system as through your “Add to DVD Queue”/mailer format.  Older films, obscure foreign or documentary films, and sets of television shows may be harder to come by now.

I YEARN FOR THE ERA OF THE VIDEO STORE.

“Digital Deaths” Do Little to Stave Off Disease

4 12 2010

Several celebrities, active in the Twitterverse, signed on for the “Digital Death” campaign- in which they would signoff until fans coughed up some cash for the “Keep A Child Alive” organization.

Beginning December 1, World Aids Day, Twitter and Facebook favorites Lady Gaga, Ryan Seacrest, Kim Kardashian and Justin Timberlake would “[sacrifice] their digital lives to help save millions of real lives affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.”

The website set up for this stunt, www.buylife.org, promises that “when $1,000,000 is reached, everyone will be back online and tweeting in no time.”

Promotional images of singer Alicia Keys and TV personality Ryan Seacrest for "Digital Death" campaign.

Dylan Stableford, of The Wrap, points out several flaws in this marketing scheme; “organizers put a $10 minimum on donations. Alicia Keys or Lady Gaga fans might be willing to part with a cup of coffee, but not what it would cost to download their next album on iTunes” and “keeping the celebrities off Twitter and Facebook during the donation process, the campaign is losing an enormous amount of social media marketing” from the celeb supporters themselves!

Stableford reports that as of Thursday afternoon a mere $165,835 was raised out of the desired $1,000,000.

The LA Times online is conducting a reader poll– so far 76% of participants find the campaign to be “emotional blackmail.”

Child star Danny Bonaduce had an interesting perspective on the project:
“. . . Didn’t Ryan Seacrest just sign a contract for $60 million? Do I really need Lady Gaga to tell me about her meat dress, and until she does, I have to give money? How about if these three get together and just put up $333,000 each and take care of the million bucks on their own since the American public pays their salary in the first place?”

A Final Look At Pros & Cons of Social Media

1 12 2010

The internet is ever expanding, and so is our interest in, use of, and potentially our dissatisfaction with it.

We asked several people, from twentysomethings to thirtysomethings to fortysomethings, in various vocations about their familiarity and frequency of use in today’s social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

As social sites have exceeded the original intentions of their creators- personal communications- and entered more public and sometimes professional realms, a number of things need to be considered…
the most of important of which is P R I V A C Y!  Assuming only your approved friends will see your silly and sarcastic commentary is naive. You must be aware of what you say, when, where, and who is able to view it. Get familiar with the security settings of your chosen profile platform!

People who have benefitted or suffered from online content:
-Paul Chambers: A frustrated tweet got this Brit fired from his job, and convicted of menacing charges.

-Keenan Cahill: This teen gained quite a following for his humorous lipsyncing on Youtube… so much so that he was recently invited to appear on the nighttime talk show “Chelsea Lately.”

-Tyler Clementi: 18-year-old Rutgers student lept to his death after his college roommate secretly recorded and broadcast a romantic encounter Clementi had.

-Betty White: The veteran actress has made a comeback since her days on “The Golden Girls,” with help from a youthful spirit and youthful fans. White hosted a special Mother’s Day episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ last May, after head producer Lorne Michaels gave in to the facebook campaign by fans who wanted the 88-year-old to appear.

On The Edge with Kristi

8 11 2010

810 pages of results for Kristi Gustafson’s On the Edge blog.

Good lord this woman is committed! (Or should be committed, depending how you wanna look at it.)

Gustafson blogs multiple times per day, although I notice it is usually within a few hours-long window. She makes references to other social media outlets on which to find and contact her, including Facebook and Twitter.

I like the “ARA” posts, where Kristi sort of lets the readers interact, moreso than stepping right in to give the advice herself.  This is sort of a theme, Kristi acts as facilitator of discussion and information exchange, instead of just giving the word like some bloggers do.

I think Kristi’s lecture will have an interesting perspective, given her young age and growing prominence on the TU blogosphere.  Gustafson will serve as a great example to our class of what it means to practically apply today’s expanding realm of social media in the workforce.

“Tweet Me,” say Celebs on LGBT Outreach YouTube Channel

6 10 2010

In the last three weeks, there have been SEVEN reported suicides amonst teens identifying themselves with the LGBT community.

From Saugus, MA to Houston, TX to Tehachapi, CA- young men were driven by a not-so-normal breed of childhood bullies to hang, shoot, or drown themselves.

These facts and stories are horrific to hear, whether or not you are gay, straight, young, old, a parent, a student, Republican or Democrat.

As Sandra Bullock so beautifully stated in her 2010 Oscar acceptance speech:
“There’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color- nothing- no sexual orientation, that makes us better than anyone else.
We are all deserving of love.”

Author and internationally syndicated columnist Dan Savage founded the It Gets Better Project after learning of the death of 15-year-old Billy Lucas of Greensburg, Indiana.

Rooted in the ever-popular and accessable YouTube site, the program encourages members of the LGBTQ community, and it’s allies, to make personal videos for gay youth.

In the two weeks since the channel was made, over 13,000 users have “subscribed” to Savage’s content and over 1 million people have viewed the video posts.

Getting in on the action are some of Hollywoods most outspoken gay and lesbian figures: gossip blogger Perez Hilton, actor Neil Patrick Harris, and TV personality/comedianne Ellen DeGeneres.

A few celebrities who have reached out on an even more personal level, encouraging the troubled, questioning teens to talk to THEM, if no one else.  Pop-rocker Joel Madden (of Good Charlotte) and 90s boy-bander AJ McLean (of the Backstreet Boys) back up their “it gets better” claims with the promise to be there for these frustrated, hurt, struggling kids themselves- citing their personal, individual availability on Twitter.

“Foursquare” Could Prove Useful Tool In Journalist’s Arsenal

6 10 2010

Former Seattle Times staffer and current USC professor Robert Hernandez highlighted the potential for new social media website Foursquare as a tool for journalists to find sources.

Hernandez, who is the moderator of a web journalists chat group on Twitter, used the hostage situation at Discovery headquarters in early September as an example:  “The day it happened, I looked to see who had checked in [on FourSquare] and I saw a guy based in LA had checked into the building a few hours before the incident.”

Hernandez explained that “because this person is announcing to the world that they’re there, that increases the likelihood that they’re willing to talk. Instead of going to a place, or cold calling, or going up to people and interrupting them or going on a fishing expedition, you can find very specific eyewitness sources.”

Twitter FAIL (JRL 490 – World News)

22 09 2010

I have not get given myself over to the wonderful world of tweets, twitpics, and trending topics— and perhaps for good reason!

A teenager in Australia recently “tweeted” a JavaScript code that, when moused over, enabled a pop-up window.
“I did it merely to see if it could be done…  I had no idea it was going to take off how it did. I just hadn’t even considered it,” said Pearce Delphin.

What he hadn’t considered was that by exposing this Twitter security flaw, he would inspire hackers across the globe to pounce on the nearly 6million registered Twitter users.

The malicious code derouted visitors to Japanese pornography websites, allowed spam advertisements, and randomly generated “tweets” on their accounts.

Delphin hopes that although “Netcraft” security traced the code back to him, officials will consider that he merely “discovered a vulnerability,” and did not “create a self-replicating worm.”

Delphin claimed that Twitter was aware of this hole in their system, but failed to correct it.

My question is why not fix it?!  Why knowingly leave your millions of users vulnerable to such an unnecessary attack?

I would be interested to know how many users effected by the worm are now going inactive on the popular social site…
